Situated on the seemingly countless sugar-white sands of Florida's w coast, the Chiliad Plaza offers the quintessential beach break. Like shooting fish in a barrel to notice on Gulf Boulevard, which runs the length of St Pete Beach, it is only v miles (8km) from Interstate 275, which leads to Tampa International Drome (29 miles/46km away) and Orlando (116 miles/185km). Several restaurants, including locals' favourite Crabby Nib's, are within walking distance, while buses for the Central Artery Trolley, which links to the Suncoast Beach Trolley and covers the full declension route, stop simply across the road.

Bright, fresh rooms offer plenty of space and either body of water views or the intracoastal waterway to the east. All take a balcony, mini-fridge, microwave, coffee-maker, safe, DVD player, iron and ironing lath. With four restaurants, there is terrific choice for drinking and dining, starting with breakfast in the conservatory-fashion Palm Room, where Crab Benedict, omelettes and pancakes jostle with steak and eggs and Southern-mode sausage and biscuits. Dejeuner and dinner are offered at the uber-elegant Spinners, on the 12th floor, with superb ocean views to go with their fresh local seafood and hand-cut steaks; Level eleven, for pocket-sized-plate dining, including an excellent Charcuterie plate; and Bongos Beach Bar & Grille, with a typical array of sandwiches, burgers, salads and flatbreads.
